Dr. Brian Merrill
I was born and raised in the small coal-mining community of Price, Utah with 3 siblings. We benefitted greatly from our very hard-working, and loving single mother. After finishing an LDS mission in Stockholm, Sweden I spent my undergraduate/pre-medical years at Utah State University. I met and married my wonderful wife, Cari, in my senior year just before moving to Phoenix to attend The Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.
I must admit that I was a little surprised by my decision to specialize in psychiatry. Upon entering medical training, I had planned on a career in surgery, however, it didn’t take long to see how pervasive and frequently unrecognized psychiatric difficulties are in all branches of medicine. I was amazed at the tremendous impact that good psychiatric care could make.
After completion of my Osteopathic medical degree, I entered my residency training in General Psychiatry at the University of Utah hospitals and clinics. Now 22 years, approximately twenty thousand patients and 4 children later, I am excited to be in a place personally and professionally to have the freedom to implement some of my own ideas. I have partnered with Innovia Mental Health in creating a system that, I believe, will reduce cost, improve convenience, and improve diagnostic and treatment accuracy. To honor the natural beauty and unique culture of Utah, have chosen to name this new endeavor Zion Telepsychiatry. I invite you to explore what we have to offer for those struggling with mental health difficulties.
Thanks,
Brian Merrill, D.O.
